The headsets are so new to each individual encounter. Common sense tells me that painting every week, but what is, for example, the Ohio State helmets. They have stickers on them.

My best guess is, the sticker is peeled back to the game, if necessary, painted and polished for the weekend
Yes, they are cleaned and painted.
And in the case of Notre Dame, to paint with real gold paint that was it.
